Rohit Sharma didn’t show everything
When Rohit Sharma smashed Mitchell Starc for four sixes in an over in the T20 World Cup, it was a remarkable turnaround for the Indian skipper. Coming into the match against Australia at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 on Monday, Rohit had struggled against left-arm bowlers, having been dismissed by Shaheen Shah Afridi, Saurabh Netravalkar, and Fazalhaq Farooqi. His aggressive intent at the top of the order often led to poor shot execution.
At the Darren Sammy Stadium, though, Rohit converted his intent into an extraordinary display against Starc. Despite a scratchy start in the first over, he teed off in Starc's second over. The first two balls, overpitched outside off stump, were smashed for sixes over cover. The third ball, a mishit slog, cleared mid-on. The fifth ball was sent soaring over midwicket, leaving Starc frustrated. The over ended with a streaky six off a full toss behind the stumps, resulting in 29 runs.
Rohit's 41-ball 92 had already inflicted significant damage on Australia before Starc eventually claimed his wicket. This explosive cover was reminiscent of Rohit's best performances and demonstrated his ability to dominate even the best bowlers on the biggest stage.
