Rohit Sharma gives his verdict on getting sacked as MI captain

Team India captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar spoke to journalists on a range of topics ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup in June. The World Cup will be hosted by the USA and West Indies.

The Mumbai Indians skipper has finally spoken publicly about the captaincy change, almost five months after surprising many by announcing Hardik Pandya as the new captain to replace Rohit Sharma:

“You don’t always get what you want, but I am happy. I have played under many captains in the past. My focus is on my game right now and what I could do for the team.”

Although disappointed by the captaincy issue, Rohit Sharma did not hide his feelings. He noted that playing without the captaincy was nothing new as he had spent many years of his career under different captains.

With five IPL titles to his name, Rohit Sharma is tied with MS Dhoni for the most captaincy titles. Rohit led Mumbai Indians to the coveted IPL title in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020 during his decade-long tenure at the helm of the franchise from mid-season 2013 to 2023.

So far, Hardik Pandya's first season as captain of the Mumbai Indians has been disastrous, with the Mumbai-based franchise all but eliminated from playoff contention after winning just three of their opening ten matches.
