RR head coach Kumar Sangakkara blames his own players for multiple losses in IPL 2024

According to RR director of cricket and head coach Kumar Sangakkara, the Royals made too many unforced errors that cost them the match against DC. Despite Sanju Samson's questionable dismissal in the 16th over, Sangakkara said RR should have chased down the 222-run mark against DC.

They lost to Delhi Capitals by 20 runs on Tuesday, meaning they will have to wait for another game to secure a play-off spot. Head coach Kumar Sangakkara believes that they have been too careless in the last few games:

“It’s challenging. We’ve had a fantastic start to the season; a few bumps along the way, but that’s how the competition works. You must be at the top of your game. We seem to be making far too many casual errors, in my opinion.”

He stressed the need for patience on the field as the game progressed and praised spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal for bowling well in the first innings.

Sangakkara felt his team gave away a few extra runs towards the end of the first innings.

Skipper Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag steadied the innings for RR, who lost Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first over and Jos Buttler in the powerplay. Shubham Dubey made a cameo appearance in the middle.

RR need a win to seal their play-off spot as they take on Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk on Sunday.
