Sanju Samson, the Indian cricketer, has expressed that he is not overly concerned about the lack of opportunities in the Indian team and is more focused on the team's success. Despite finding it difficult to secure a spot in the playing XI, especially with Rishabh Pant being preferred as the wicketkeeper-batsman in T20Is, Samson maintains a positive outlook.
The 29-year-old has faced challenges in making it to the squad, missing out on the ODI team for the Sri Lanka tour even after scoring a century in his last 50-over appearance. However, Samson is content with the team's overall performance and remains patient for his chances.
"I will just go and play whenever they select me. That's it! End of the day, our team is doing well. I am the kind of person who believes in a higher purpose. I just try to take things positively under controllable circumstances and put up the efforts,” Samson stated during an event.
Recently, Samson featured in the T20I series against Sri Lanka but struggled, getting dismissed for consecutive ducks. However, he did have a notable performance in the fifth T20I against Zimbabwe, where he scored 58 off 45 balls, helping the team recover after early wickets.
Samson was also part of India's squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, although he didn't get a chance to play, with Pant being favoured in the playing XI. His selection for the World Cup followed a strong IPL season, where he captained Rajasthan Royals and finished as the fifth-highest run-scorer, amassing 531 runs at an average of 48.27 and a strike rate of 153.46.
While Samson has shown great potential in ODIs, with 510 runs from 14 innings at an average of 56.66, his T20I performances have been inconsistent. With the competition for the wicketkeeper's slot intensifying, Samson remains focused on delivering strong performances when given the opportunity.
