Samson's controversial dismissal sees Sidhu lose his cool with the umpire
Sanju Samson was clearly not out but the third umpire made a mistake despite using technology in the DC vs RR IPL 2024 match, according to Navjot Singh Sidhu. The right-handed batsman was on 84 when he hit a lofted drive towards long-on. However, the timing was off and the ball was caught by Shai Hope near the boundary rope. The fielder couldn't keep his balance and appeared to touch the rope.
The on-field umpires were unsure and the third umpire was called in. After a few seconds of reviewing replays, he gave Sanju Samson out, leaving Rajasthan and the commentators in shock. The third umpire was accused of not checking the replays from different angles, despite having the technology at his disposal.
Former India player Navjot Singh Sidhu hits out at the umpire:
“Sanju Samson was not out as the fielder touched the rope twice. The third umpire should have seen it from different angles. Stop using technology if you can’t make proper use of it.”
Rajasthan couldn't recover from the loss of their captain. Chasing 222, they lost by 20 runs.
