Sanju Samson has incurred significant penalties for his team, Rajasthan Royals, for failing to complete 20 overs in time for the second time in the Indian Premier League 2024. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has imposed a fine of INR 24 lakh on Sanju Samson for the second slow over rate penalty.
RR was one over short of the allotted time. Despite the objections of Yuzvendra Chahal and Avesh Khan to the umpire's decision, the team was only able to place four fielders outside the thirty-yard circle against the Lucknow Super Giants.
Samson will be suspended for one match if the offence occurs for the third time. Should this occur during the playoffs, it could result in the Royals being eliminated from the competition, as the franchise is currently leading the points table and is just one win away from securing its place in the playoffs.
The Rajasthan Royals have been found guilty of the slow over-rate offence against the Gujarat Titans for the first time. The Titans emerged victorious against Rajasthan by three wickets.
The IPL had stated:
”Sanju Samson, the Rajasthan Royals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on April 10. As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Samson was fined Rs 12 lakhs.”
