During Mumbai's first home game against Rajasthan Royals on April 1, Rohit Sharma's security was compromised when a pitch invader breached the
security cover and hugged the former Mumbai Indians captain. Sharma was taken by surprise when he saw the man approaching him. The fan also hugged wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan before attempting to escape from the security personnel.
However, he was caught by security officials and removed from the field. The fan, dressed in a t-shirt and jeans, began celebrating after speaking with Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan.
Rohit was positioned in the slip cordon when the cricket enthusiast trespassed onto the pitch.
During Rajasthan's run chase, the game was interrupted by a fan who entered the field. Such incidents can negatively impact the players' concentration and enjoyment of the game.
During the 17th season, a fan invaded the pitch for the second time. The first incident occurred during the IPL 2024 game between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings. The fan met his favourite player, Virat Kohli, and even touched his feet at Chinnasamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Pitch invasion poses a threat to player safety and could lead to incidents in the future.
