Shanto is getting ready for the match against India

After leading Bangladesh to a historic Test series victory over Pakistan, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto is now focused on challenging Rohit Sharma's India in the upcoming two-match Test series next month. The triumph over Pakistan, only Bangladesh's third away series win in 33 attempts, has significantly bolstered the team's confidence as they prepare to face India on their home turf.

Bangladesh has achieved remarkable upsets against India in limited-overs formats but has yet to defeat them in Test cricket. Shanto is hopeful that key players like Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who played a pivotal role in the Pakistan series, will continue their stellar performances against India. "The next series is very important, and this win gives us a lot of confidence. We have a lot of experience with Mushi [Mushfiqur Rahim] and Shakib [Al Hasan], and they will be crucial in India. Mehidy was outstanding with his five-wicket haul, and I hope he can do the same against India," Shanto remarked after the match.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz was named Player of the Series for his exceptional all-round performance, claiming 10 wickets and scoring 155 runs in the two Tests against Pakistan. Shanto also praised the work ethic of his pacers, which was instrumental in the historic win in Rawalpindi. "This victory means a lot; it's hard to express in words. The way everyone performed, especially our pacers, was impressive. Everyone was honest with themselves, and they all wanted to win. I hope they continue this momentum," he added.

On the final day of the second Test, Bangladesh chased down the remaining 143 runs needed to secure a six-wicket win, extending Pakistan's dismal home record to 10 Test matches without a victory since December 2021. Shanto expressed his satisfaction with the team's collective effort, particularly the contributions of players who weren't in the playing XI but supported the team from the field.

"Everyone chipped in, especially those who weren't getting chances. The four guys who weren't in the XI but helped the team on the field were very impressive. I hope this culture continues," Shanto concluded, hinting at celebrations to come as they prepare to travel for the India series.
