Cricket Australia has announced that four rounds of the prestigious Sheffield Shield will be played to help Australian players prepare for the crucial Test series against India. This series aims to end Australia's four successive Test series defeats to India, including two at home.
The Sheffield Shield rounds will begin on October 8 and include a special window without any international commitments, allowing players to focus solely on red-ball cricket. There will be no international cricket for Australia in October, providing an uninterrupted period for players to participate in the domestic competition.
This schedule will see the return of top Australian Test players, including Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Steve Smith, who have not played in the Sheffield Shield for the last three editions due to various commitments.
The competition will feature exciting matchups, such as Travis Head and Alex Carey facing off against Starc, Hazlewood, and Lyon. Steve Smith might open the batting for New South Wales, and players like Cameron Green and Mitchell Marsh could bolster Western Australia.
Players like Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja will get valuable practice on challenging pitches against strong domestic opponents, preparing them for the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammed Shami.

- Australia A vs. India A: Two first-class games on October 31 and November 7 will serve as additional preparation for the Test series.
