Shortly about WTC

In the latest developments of the World Test Championship, England secured a five-wicket victory against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford on Saturday, propelling them to the fourth position in the WTC standings, currently led by India and Australia.

This triumph marks England's seventh win in 14 Tests during this cycle, raising their points percentage (PCT) to 41.1. Conversely, Sri Lanka faced their third defeat in five matches, causing their PCT to drop from 50 to 40. New Zealand holds the third spot with a PCT of 50.

Both England and Sri Lanka still have eight Tests remaining in this cycle. Meanwhile, India and the reigning champions, Australia, are at the forefront with PCTs of 68.5 and 62.5 respectively.

In a surprising turn of events, Bangladesh stunned Pakistan by ten wickets on Sunday, elevating them to the sixth position in the standings.

As of August 25, 2024, there are 14 Test series left in the WTC 2023-25 cycle, with eight teams vying for a chance to qualify. Unfortunately, West Indies, with only four Tests remaining and a PCT of 20, have been eliminated from contention for next year’s WTC final at Lord’s.
