Gujarat Titans eked out a narrow win against Rajasthan Royals in the 2024 Indian Premier League. The Shubman Gil-led side needed 75 runs from the last 5 overs, with the skipper returning to the pavilion after scoring 72. Rajasthan had been declared winners, but the Titans' lower middle order had other plans. Shahrukh Khan, brought in as a replacement, scored 14 runs off 8 balls, with a four and a six. His runs came at a strike rate of 175.
His brief but effective knock brought Gujarat back into the game. Rahul Tewatia was then joined by Rashid Khan and the pair didn't look back to win the match. Rahul made 22 off 11 balls before he was run out. Rashid, however, kept his cool and smashed a boundary off the last ball of the innings to take his team to an emphatic victory.
Rashid was named player of the match and Gill praised him and Tewatia for their batting. He forgot to mention GT debutant Shahrukh. Navjot Singh Sidhu knew what Shahrukh had done and said the young batsman had played the most important knock of the match:
"Shubman Gill set the platform for the team, but his innings played no part in the win. Gujarat needed 75 runs off the last five overs when he departed. Shahrukh was sensational. He hit the fourth ball of his innings for six under pressure. This shows his guts and talent. He also slammed a four. It was him that made the other two believe that Gujarat can win the game and they finally did when Rashid hit a four.”
