Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma and chairman of the BCCI selection committee Ajit Agarkar addressed a press conference at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.
They discussed the 15-member Indian squad selected for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean and USA next month. They explained some of the most talked about selection decisions for this major tournament.
In the IPL 2024, Virat Kohli's strike rate became a national issue. Many pundits have attacked Kohli for his low strike rate against spinners in the middle overs, while some have defended him.
Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar both laughed when asked about Virat's strike rate.
Agarkar said:
“We are not the ones who talked about Virat’s strike-rate. Look at his stats, he is performing exceptionally well in the IPL. He is someone who can walk in into any situation and take us to victory.”
Although Kohli is the second-highest run-scorer in the current IPL season, his relatively low strike rate of 147.49 has come under scrutiny, with many arguing that it is inadequate for the fast-paced demands of modern T20 cricket.
India begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 5.
