Simon Doull makes an unlikely selection for Team India to open the ICC T20 World Cup 2024
The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled for June. The performance of the players in the Indian Premier League 2024 is being closely monitored by the Indian selectors. Although some names are almost confirmed, there is still a lot of brainstorming required for the middle order and some important slots.
Former New Zealand player Simon Doull suggested that India should open with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to give them the freedom to bat in the powerplay overs against big teams.
“Virat Kohli should open the innings. In my team, Rinku Singh is there, but if Kohli plays at the No. 3 slot, the star finisher will miss out. Virat can be clubbed with Rohit as it is the best batting position for him. He is a great timer of the ball and can hit boundaries upfront. Coming in and playing against the spinners is not the best option for Virat.”
Doull stated that Jaiswal is unlikely to make it to the Playing XI. He suggested that Sanju Samson should bat at No. 3, with Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, and Ravindra Jadeja following.
Doull's team did not have players like Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill. While other players may be considered for the squad, Rinku Singh should be persisted as he has performed well in the past year.
