Smriti Mandhana was moved by the overwhelming support she received from fans during RCB's opening match in WPL 2024
During the toss of her team's opening game against UP Warriorz in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024, Smriti Mandhana, the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore women's team, became emotional. The RCB fans went wild as soon as the Indian player began discussing her team's preparations for the match.
Mandhana had to request the fans present at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru to calm down.
However, the left-handed batter failed to perform with the bat for one of the most popular franchises. She only managed to score 13 runs off 11 balls before being dismissed by Sophie Ecclestone. As a result, the Bangalore-based franchise struggled to gain momentum and only scored 157/6 on the board.
Richa Ghosh top-scored with 62 runs off 37 balls. Her knock included 12 fours. Sabbhineni Meghana was the other batter who scored a half-century, amassing 53 off 44 deliveries, including 7 fours and 1 six.
UP's Rajeshwari Gayakwad claimed two wickets, with Grace Harris, Tahlia McGrath, Sophie Ecclestone, and Deepti Sharma each taking one wicket.
