Sundar sees the opportunity to win the 3rd ODI against Sri Lanka
India all-rounder Washington Sundar sees the must-win third ODI against Sri Lanka as a crucial chance to tackle spin challenges and prepare for next year's Champions Trophy. India faces its first bilateral ODI series defeat against Sri Lanka in 27 years after a 32-run loss in the second ODI, largely due to issues against Sri Lankan spinners.
Sundar emphasised that the match is an opportunity to perform well under pressure and adapt to challenging conditions. "This is a chance to step up in critical situations, which will help us in upcoming big tournaments," he said.
Defending the batting line-up, Sundar asserted that they are experienced against spin and just need to adapt. "We’ve played on similar wickets before and know our strengths against spin. It’s about finding individual solutions and executing them."
Sundar noted that the team has been adjusting tactics with guidance from new head coach Gautam Gambhir, who has provided valuable insights on handling spin. "Gambhir’s experience has been crucial. We’ve worked on tactical changes and are focused on being fully prepared."
Sundar, who has previously delivered key performances, including a match-winning role in a Super Over, is eager to contribute and capitalise on his opportunities. "I want to perform well with the bat and help the team, especially in challenging situations."
Sundar has made some adjustments regarding his bowling but focuses on finding his rhythm. "I’ve made minor changes to my technique, aiming to improve my rhythm and efficiency to be a better asset for the team."
