The 1st ODI between India and Sri Lanka did not see a Super Over

As the Indian cricket team fell short in the second ODI against Sri Lanka, the outcome of their tied first match is once again under scrutiny. Surprisingly, despite the scores being level in the first ODI, there was no Super Over to determine a winner. The match was declared a 'tie,' even though the International Cricket Council's (ICC) playing conditions specify that a 1-over eliminator should be used in tied 50-over games.

According to a Cricbuzz report, on-field umpires Joel Wilson and Raveendra Wimalasiri chose not to conduct a Super Over, leaving the match officially tied.

ICC Playing Conditions for Tied ODIs:

"If the teams' scores are equal after both innings have been completed (if applicable under DLS), a Super Over shall be played. If the Super Over ends in a tie, additional Super Overs shall be played until a winner is determined. If it is not possible to play or complete the Super Overs, the match shall be declared a tie."

Neither the ICC nor the Indian management has yet explained.
