All eyes will be on BCCI secretary Jay Shah during the upcoming ICC Annual Conference in Colombo, set to begin on Friday. There are likely to be significant discussions regarding his potential takeover from current chairman Greg Barclay. The conference will kick off with a board meeting, where the focus will be on the substantial losses of over USD 20 million incurred by the ICC for hosting T20 World Cup matches in the United States.
While the AGM's nine-point agenda does not specifically address the financial aspects of the event, a post-event report will be presented to the board, as per usual practice. The agenda also includes the appointment of a new external auditor, discussions on ICC memberships, a report from the associate members' meeting, and the presentation of the ICC Development Awards.
The issue of India not travelling to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy is not officially on the ICC Board's agenda, unless it is raised under the section "Any Other Business". However, there is keen interest within the ICC on when Jay Shah will assume the role of chairman.
There is speculation that adjustments may be made to the ICC chairmanship term to accommodate Shah's timeline, as he still has a year left as BCCI secretary before entering a cooling-off period in 2025. One proposal is to change the term from three terms of two years each to two terms of three years, allowing Shah to complete a six-year term starting in 2025. This would allow him to serve as ICC chairman before returning to the BCCI as board president in 2028.
