The Indian team fly to Delhi on Wednesday

The Indian cricket team, having recently clinched the T20 World Cup 2024, encountered significant delays in their return to India from Barbados. Originally scheduled to depart on July 3, their plans were disrupted due to Hurricane Beryl, which forced the closure of the airport and the cancellation of flights. As a result, the team, along with support staff and families, had an extended stay in Barbados.

Rajeev Shukla, the vice president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), provided an update, confirming that arrangements had been made for the team to fly back to Delhi from Barbados on Wednesday evening local time. They are expected to arrive in India on the evening of July 4. Shukla also mentioned that BCCI secretary Jay Shah was overseeing the situation to ensure the players' safe return.

Shukla shared this update on social media, expressing relief that the team was finally able to depart Barbados after being stranded for three days due to the hurricane. He also confirmed that the T20 World Cup trophy is en route back to India.

India's victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 was notable, marked by an unbeaten run throughout the tournament, culminating in a thrilling final against South Africa in Bridgetown, Barbados, on June 29. This win is particularly significant as it ends India's 13-year wait for a World Cup title in the T20 format, following their previous triumph in the 2011 ODI World Cup.
