In a special video shared by the BCCI, India’s star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin opened up about light-hearted complaints from his wife, Prithi Narayanan, and their daughters during the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai. Despite his Player of the Match performance, Ashwin revealed that his family wasn’t entirely happy with him.
Prithi, who was present at the stadium with their kids, playfully interviewed Ashwin after his match-winning display. She mentioned that the kids were upset because Ashwin didn’t come over to greet them or wave on Day 1 of the Test. Ashwin humorously acknowledged their complaint, explaining that it's hard for him to focus on his family during a match, but he does try to make an effort for them.
Prithi also asked Ashwin about his deep connection with Chepauk, where he delivered an all-round performance, scoring his sixth Test century and taking six wickets. Ashwin admitted he felt an undeniable energy on the ground that always motivated him to perform.
In a touching moment, Prithi asked Ashwin what he would gift their daughters for Daughter’s Day. Ashwin responded that he would give them the ball with which he took his five-wicket haul against Bangladesh, making the occasion even more special.
"I hadn’t batted in a while and didn’t expect to score a hundred here. There’s something about this ground that keeps me going," Ashwin said, reflecting on his remarkable innings at his home ground.
Ashwin thanked Prithi for bringing him good luck and always being there for him.
