“Rishabh Pant would never walk again”
Rishabh Pant has been cleared by the BCCI to play for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. After a lengthy rehabilitation, the wicket-keeper batsman has fully recovered and is eager to showcase his skills for the franchise. He had suffered a life-threatening car accident in December 2022, and those around him have hailed his recovery as a miracle.
Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, Director of the Center for Sports Medicine at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, who oversaw the batter's surgery, recalled how the cricketer's mother was concerned about her son's knee.
He underwent multiple surgeries to repair damage to his right knee, as well as wrist and ankle fractures. Additionally, the upper layer of skin on his back was damaged.
Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala spoke to the BCCI and said that Rishabh was determined to recover within 12 months, despite the doctor's prognosis of at least 18 months. The doctor also noted that returning to cricket in less than 15 months was miraculous.
“As a doctor, I must inform the family members about the actual status of the injury. His mother was worried that his son would be unable to walk again. I gave her confidence that we would ensure he would at least walk again and live his life like others.”
