The national Bangladesh team won 2-0 against Pakistan
In a historic achievement for Bangladesh cricket, the national team secured a remarkable 2-0 series sweep against Pakistan, with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto expressing immense pride in his young squad's performance. The victory in the second Test was largely orchestrated by the impressive contributions of young fast bowlers Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana, who claimed a combined nine wickets in the second innings, effectively setting up a successful 185-run chase.
Captain Shanto highlighted the team's collective effort, stating, "Everyone did their job, and we're very happy." Mahmud emphasised the importance of hard work and collaboration among bowlers, pointing out how their collective performance in red-ball cricket made a significant impact.
While the younger players shone, it was seasoned cricketers Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz who played pivotal roles in the first innings when Bangladesh was in a precarious position at 26 for 6. Litton's 138 runs and Mehidy's 78 were crucial in stabilising the innings, allowing the team to post 262 runs in response to Pakistan's 274. Litton credited Mehidy for his role in building the innings momentum, stating, "The credit actually goes to Miraz."
The team’s bowling coach, Andre Adams, noted the young group’s remarkable improvement throughout the series, praising their control and teamwork, particularly in the second innings. Shanto also acknowledged the contributions of opening batsmen Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan, who provided essential momentum at the start of their innings.
Reflecting on their achievement, Shanto expressed his joy, declaring, "It means a lot, can't express with words. Very happy." The victory not only marked a significant milestone for Bangladesh cricket but also showcased the potential of its younger talents, who are eager to continue building on this success.
