The second Test between India and Bangladesh, set to be held in Kanpur, will go ahead as planned despite protest threats from a right-wing group, according to sources. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is closely monitoring the situation and has implemented measures to ensure the match proceeds smoothly.
A senior BCCI official confirmed that there are no plans to change the venue. Speaking to SportsTak, the official stated that the Test, scheduled for September 27, will continue as scheduled despite concerns over a protest threat issued by the Hindu Mahasabha. The group has expressed plans to protest against the Bangladesh team in response to alleged violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, targeting the Kanpur Test for their demonstration.
When asked if the BCCI was considering alternative arrangements, the official said, "Yes, we are closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the concerned authorities. All necessary measures have been taken to ensure the match proceeds as planned, and the stadium is fully prepared to host both teams."
He emphasised that the match will not be moved: "The match is staying in Kanpur. However, we will continue to monitor developments both in Kanpur and at other venues."
The two-Test series between India and Bangladesh will begin on September 19 in Chennai, with the second Test following in Kanpur on September 27. Despite the concerns surrounding the Kanpur match, the BCCI and local authorities are working to ensure a smooth and secure event.
This series marks the beginning of India's long Test season, where they are set to play 10 matches across five series. The BCCI has also announced a 15-member squad for the first Test, which includes the return of Rishabh Pant and the maiden call-up of left-arm pacer Yash Dayal.
