The world cricket needs guys who are a bit more aggressive

The fiery and intense Gautam Gambhir will replace the ice-cool Rahul Dravid as the Indian cricket team coach. Gambhir's appointment is set to add a new layer of intensity to an Indian team riding high after winning the T20 World Cup and reaching the finals in the ICC World Cup and World Test Championship.

Cricketing legends Dale Steyn, Shahid Afridi, and Jacques Kallis have shared their reactions to Gambhir's new role.

Dale Steyn expressed his admiration for Gambhir's aggressive style:

“I’m a big fan of Gautam Gambhir. I love his aggression; he’s one of the few Indians I played against who came back at you. I like it. I think he’s going to take that into the dressing room. Not just India, but world cricket needs guys who are more aggressive and play harder. We all play in leagues against each other and become quite friendly. I like the way Gambhir is fierce on the field but a gentleman off it. He’s street-wise and a very smart cricketer. From that point of view, he’s going to be fantastic for the Indian team,” Steyn told Star Sports.

Jacques Kallis also praised Gambhir's appointment:

“Great to see Gauti getting into the coaching side of things. He’s got a really good cricket brain on him. He’ll bring some fire. Loves playing the game aggressively. He’ll bring that added touch, and the guys will learn a lot from him. He’s got a lot to add… he will add a lot of value to that Indian team,” said Kallis.

Shahid Afridi similarly heaped praise on Gambhir:

“Whenever I hear interviews of Gambhir, he always says positive things. Very straightforward guy,” said Afridi.

Gambhir's arrival is eagerly anticipated, as he brings a blend of aggression and cricketing acumen to the Indian team.
