Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah will not be part of the Indian team touring Sri Lanka. The Indian Express understands that the BCCI has decided to rest these senior players to prepare them for the upcoming busy cricket season.

A BCCI source told The Indian Express, “Senior players can take some rest and get ready for the full cricket season ahead. Rohit, Virat, and Bumrah have been offered rest and will join the team for the Test matches against Bangladesh in September.”

After the Sri Lanka tour, India will host Bangladesh from September 19 for two Tests and three T20Is. Following this, India will host New Zealand from October 16 to November 5 for three Tests. The team will then travel to South Africa to play four T20Is from November 8 to 15, before heading to Australia for a five-match Test series starting on November 22.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced on Tuesday that Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. Gambhir's first assignment will be the series against Sri Lanka.
