Uganda’s good game against Papua New Guinea

Uganda made history in the T20 World Cup 2024 by clinching their first-ever victory in a thrilling encounter against Papua New Guinea (PNG) on Thursday at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Led by Riazat Ali Shah's composed 33, Uganda successfully chased down a target of 78 runs, securing a memorable win in the Group C clash.

Following a disappointing defeat to Afghanistan, Uganda showcased resilience and determination to overcome PNG, marking a significant milestone in their T20 cricket journey. Captain Brian Masaba played a pivotal role in steering his team to victory, remaining unbeaten as he guided Uganda to the historic win amidst jubilant celebrations on the field.

Despite encountering some hurdles along the way, with Uganda losing seven wickets before reaching the target in the 19th over, the significance of the victory was not diminished. The players' exuberant celebrations and spirited performance reflected the culmination of years of hard work and dedication to the sport.

Speaking after the match, Captain Brian Masaba expressed immense pride in his team's achievement, emphasising the significance of securing Uganda's maiden win in the T20 World Cup. He credited the collective effort of the players and the unwavering support from the cricketing board for this remarkable milestone.

In addition to their batting heroics, Uganda's bowlers also played a crucial role in restricting PNG to a modest total. Left-arm orthodox bowler Frank Nsubuga etched his name in the record books with a remarkable spell, conceding just four runs and claiming two wickets, thus achieving the most economical spell in the history of the men's T20 World Cup.

With this historic win under their belt, Uganda will now look ahead to their upcoming clash against co-hosts West Indies on Saturday at the Providence Stadium, aiming to build on their momentum and continue their inspiring journey in the tournament.
