USA's Saurabh Netravalkar shines in composed Super Over
With two wins from as many games, USA asserts its dominance atop Group A, while Pakistan faces a daunting challenge against India in their next encounter.
In a historic first-ever clash between the two nations in international cricket, the USA emerged victorious in a nail-biting Super Over showdown at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. Mohammad Amir's erratic bowling performance, including seven wides, paved the way for USA's triumph, as Saurabh Netravalkar showcased nerves of steel, dismissing Iftikhar Ahmed and securing a crucial victory margin of five runs.
Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, USA's bowlers impressively restricted Pakistan to 159/7 in their allotted 20 overs. A thrilling last-ball boundary from Nitish Kumar levelled the scores, setting the stage for a tense finish.
Earlier, Monank Patel notched up his maiden T20I half-century, ably supported by Andries Gous, steering USA's chase until Pakistan staged a late fightback. Despite losing wickets and facing mounting pressure, USA managed to keep the contest alive, ultimately emerging victorious in the dramatic Super Over showdown.
Pakistan, the 2009 champions and last edition's runners-up, endured a rocky start, losing early wickets within the powerplay. A brief recovery led by Shadab Khan and skipper Babar Azam was short-lived, as the USA's bowlers struck back to put Pakistan on the defensive. Shaheen Shah Afridi's cameo propelled Pakistan past the 150-run mark, but it wasn't enough to secure victory.
In the bowling department, Noshtush Kenjige starred for the USA with three crucial wickets, while Saurabh Netravalkar and others contributed with crucial breakthroughs, sealing the USA's memorable triumph over Pakistan.
