Violation of the ICC's Code of Conduct

In a Group D fixture of the T20 World Cup 2024 between Bangladesh and Nepal, Bangladeshi bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib was fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his misconduct on the field. The young bowler's aggressive behaviour towards Nepal skipper Rohit Paudel led to a penalty of 15 percent of his match fee for violating the ICC's Code of Conduct.

The incident occurred during the third over of Nepal's chase when Tanzim, amidst a spirited spell, had an on-pitch confrontation with Rohit Paudel. Despite his exceptional bowling performance, which saw him claim figures of 4/7 in four overs, including two maidens, Tanzim's aggressive antics overshadowed his achievements. His actions were deemed a breach of Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which pertains to inappropriate physical contact with other players or personnel.

The charges against Tanzim were brought forward by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sam Nogajski, third umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal, and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena. Tanzim accepted the charge and the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, thereby negating the need for a formal hearing.

While Tanzim's aggressive spell was instrumental in Bangladesh's 21-run victory over Nepal, the fine serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining decorum on the field.
