Rahul Dravid, India's head coach, congratulated Virat Kohli on India's victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 and encouraged him to strive for the next trophy on his list: the World Test Championship (WTC). After India's win over South Africa in Barbados, Dravid urged Kohli to aim for the WTC title, the only trophy missing from his collection.
Kohli bid farewell to his T20I career in a stylish manner by announcing his retirement after the victorious match. The ICC posted a video on Instagram of the Indian team celebrating in the dressing room, with Kohli kissing the trophy for a memorable photograph. Dravid, in his message to Kohli, emphasised ticking off the T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup, and Champions Trophy and now focusing on the WTC.
Despite coming close to winning the WTC in 2021 and 2023, India fell short in the final matches against New Zealand and Australia. With his retirement from T20Is, Kohli will now concentrate on ODIs and Tests in pursuit of the coveted WTC trophy.
Kohli's crucial performance in the final match, scoring 76 runs off 59 deliveries, played a significant role in India's victory and earned him the Player of the Match award. The win not only secured India's second T20 World Cup title but also ended a 13-year World Cup trophy drought.
