All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the ongoing three-match ODI series between India and Sri Lanka due to a hamstring injury. Following the thrilling tie in the first ODI, the teams will meet again for the second ODI at the R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday. Hasaranga sustained the injury while bowling the final delivery of his spell. Jeffrey Vandersay has been called up as his replacement. Sri Lanka’s bowling attack is already weakened by the absences of Matheesha Pathirana, Dilshan Madushanka, Dushmantha Chameera, and Nuwan Thushara.
A release from Sri Lanka Cricket stated, “Wanindu Hasaranga will miss the rest of the ODI series due to a left hamstring injury. He felt pain while delivering the last ball of his 10th over in the first ODI, and an MRI confirmed the injury.” The release also noted that Jeffrey Vandersay will replace Hasaranga.
Vandersay, 34, last played for Sri Lanka in an ODI against Zimbabwe in January this year.
The third and final ODI of the series will be held at the same venue on August 7.
