"There's probably less pressure and expectation, but I am still extremely competitive"
During a six-minute press conference, Meg Lanning emphasised the importance of enjoying cricket, following her retirement from international cricket in November. The former Australia captain, who is currently leading Delhi Capitals at the WPL, expressed relief at the weight that has been lifted.
Lanning made a crucial 55 off 41 in the Capitals' win against Gujarat Giants on Sunday.
Lanning, who is now 31, took a six-month break after the 2023 WPL. She returned to competitive cricket in September to play for Victoria in the National Cricket League, Australia's domestic one-day tournament. During the tournament, she scored six fifties in ten matches and finished as the second-highest run-getter with 492 runs. It was during this tournament that she announced her retirement.
Lanning carried her excellent form into the WPL. So far, she has scored 148 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 117.46, including two half-centuries.
However, it is unclear whether she has changed her batting style since her retirement.
