With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) calling its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 29, there is speculation about whether Jay Shah’s replacement as Secretary will be announced on that date. Shah, recently elected unopposed as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), is set to assume his new role on December 1. In the meantime, the BCCI must decide on his successor as Secretary.
However, according to a PTI report, it is unlikely that the election of a new board secretary will take place during the upcoming AGM in Bengaluru. The report indicates that a Special General Meeting (SGM) specifically for the election could be scheduled during the AGM instead. For now, Shah will continue in his current role until he transitions to his ICC position.
Additionally, the AGM coincides with the inauguration of the new National Cricket Academy (NCA) facility on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The 93rd BCCI AGM will address an 18-point agenda, one of which involves selecting India’s representative for ICC meetings, a position Shah will vacate once he assumes his ICC duties.
There is speculation that current BCCI President Roger Binny could be considered for the ICC representative role, though his age (69) may raise concerns, as 70 is the upper age limit for such positions.
