India's chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, addressed the rationale behind choosing Suryakumar Yadav (SKY) as the T20I captain instead of Hardik Pandya. Agarkar emphasised the importance of having a captain who is regularly available to play. Hardik Pandya’s past fitness issues have raised concerns about his ability to consistently be on the field.

"A captain should be on the park more often than not," Agarkar noted, indicating that reliability and consistent participation are crucial for leadership.

Agarkar praised Suryakumar Yadav's cricketing brain and his status as one of the best T20I batters in the world. His strategic understanding of the game and consistent performance make him a suitable candidate for the captaincy.

"He (Suryakumar Yadav) has got a good cricket brain. He is still one of the best T20I batters in the world," Agarkar stated.
