Will LSG set aside ₹50 crores for Sharma?

Amid ongoing speculation, a rumour has circulated claiming that the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are prepared to set aside ₹50 crores for Mumbai Indians (MI) legend Rohit Sharma in the upcoming IPL 2025 auction. However, LSG team owner Sanjiv Goenka has addressed and dismissed these claims, labelling them as baseless.

In an interview with Sports Tak, Goenka clarified the situation, stating that the rumour lacks any foundation. He pointed out that it is still uncertain whether Rohit Sharma will even be part of the auction, and if he were, it would be financially impractical for any team to allocate such a significant portion of their budget to a single player.

"Tell me one thing: does anybody know if Rohit Sharma is available in the auction? The entire rumour is baseless. We have to see if MI releases Rohit Sharma. Then, we have to see if Rohit makes himself available for bidding. Even if he does, how will you manage to get the other 22 players if you spend half of your entire budget on one player?" Goenka remarked.

When asked if Rohit Sharma would be on his wishlist if he were to enter the auction, Goenka skillfully avoided a direct answer but hinted that while any team would want a player of Rohit's calibre, it must be within reasonable financial limits. He emphasised the importance of working within the resources available to each franchise.

"Everyone would love to have the best captain and player on their team, but this is like ‘if wishes were horses.’ It’s not about what I want; it’s about what you can do with the available resources. No matter what I wish for, every franchise will wish the same. You’re not going to get everything," he concluded.
