Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Mumbai Indians by seven wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday to progress to the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 play-offs.
Opting to field, Bangalore bundled out Mumbai for 113 and then chased down the target with five overs to spare.
Mumbai got their innings off to a good start with Hayley Matthews (26-23b, 2x2, 2x6) and S Sajana (30-21b, 5x4, 1x6) batting well at the top. They added 43 runs between them but the introduction of Ellyse Perry into the attack changed the course of the game. Mumbai's batting line-up was torn apart by the Bangalore all-rounder. Perry's figures were the best in the WPL as she returned with six for 15 as Mumbai were eventually bowled out for just 113.
Bangalore started their innings shakily, losing three quick wickets of skipper Smriti Mandhana, Sophie Molineux, and Sophie Devine. However, Perry (40 not out: 38b, 5x4, 1x6) and Richa Ghosh (36 not out: 28b, 4x4, 2x6) put on an unbroken 76 runs for the fourth wicket to take their side to a seven-wicket victory with five overs to spare.
