Yadav and Iyer are in the BBT

Indian batters Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer are gearing up to represent Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Tournament as they aim to reignite their Test careers. The duo will feature in Mumbai’s match against TNCA XI on August 27 in Coimbatore, with both players keen to make a mark and push for a return to India's Test setup.

Suryakumar Yadav, fresh off leading India to a T20I series win against Sri Lanka, is eager to showcase his red-ball credentials and earn a spot in the Test squad. On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer, who has faced recent struggles in Test cricket, aims to regain form in this tournament and the upcoming Duleep Trophy, set to begin on September 5.

Yadav has only played one Test for India, back in 2023 against Australia in Nagpur, where he managed just eight runs in a single innings. Iyer, with 14 Test appearances, last played in the 2024 series against England in Visakhapatnam but couldn’t make a significant impact. Both players are looking to use the Buchi Babu Tournament and the Duleep Trophy as platforms to strengthen their case for a Test recall.

The Mumbai team, led by Sarfaraz Khan, is packed with talent. Sarfaraz himself is keen to solidify his place in the Test squad as India prepares for their home series against Bangladesh next month. Having debuted in Tests earlier this year against England, Sarfaraz has shown promise, scoring 200 runs in five innings at an average of 50.00, including three half-centuries.

With a star-studded lineup and aspirations running high, the Buchi Babu Tournament serves as a crucial stage for these players to stake their claim in India’s Test team.
