India became the first team to win the men's T20 World Cup without losing a single game throughout the tournament. India won all eight of their matches, with one match against Canada being washed out.
Winning Streak
India's eight consecutive victories in completed games match the longest winning streak in the men's T20 World Cup, a record shared with Australia, who achieved this across the 2022 and 2024 editions. South Africa also had an eight-match winning streak before their defeat on Saturday.
In the history of the men's T20 World Cup finals, teams winning the toss have an 8-1 win-loss record. The only exception was Sri Lanka, who lost to Pakistan in the 2009 final. India's win marks only the third time a team has won a men's T20 World Cup final while defending a total, following India's victory against Pakistan in 2007 and West Indies' win over Sri Lanka in 2012.
Double Champions
India is now the third team to win the men's T20 World Cup twice, having first won the inaugural 2007 edition. West Indies were the first with two titles, in 2012 and 2016, followed by England in 2010 and 2022.
Multiple Final Wins
Rohit Sharma joined the list of nine players who have won two men's T20 World Cup finals. This list includes eight West Indies players who were part of both their title wins: Daren Sammy, Marlon Samuels, Chris Gayle, Johnson Charles, Dwayne Bravo, Samuel Badree, Andre Russell, and Denesh Ramdin.
Record-Breaking Totals
India's total of 176 for 7 against South Africa on Saturday is the highest score by any team in a men's T20 World Cup final. Australia's previous record was 173 for 2 in their chase against New Zealand in 2021. The 345 runs scored in Bridgetown tied for the highest aggregate in a men's T20 World Cup final.
Fastest Fifty
Heinrich Klaasen's 23-ball fifty against India is the fastest in any men's T20 World Cup final. The previous record was held by Mitchell Marsh, who reached fifty off 31 balls against New Zealand in the 2021 final.
Chase Statistics
South Africa needed 30 runs out of 177 with six wickets in hand at the start of the 16th over, 16.95% of the target. This is the second-lowest percentage of target runs that a team has failed to chase in the last five overs (16-20) of a men's T20I with six or more wickets in hand. New Zealand needed 15.06% of their target against South Africa in 2012 and ended up losing by three runs.
Virat Kohli now holds the record for the most Player-of-the-Match awards in men's T20Is with 16, surpassing Suryakumar Yadav's 15. Eight of Kohli's awards have come in the men's T20 World Cup, the most by any player.
Oldest Captain
At 37 years and 60 days old, Rohit Sharma became the oldest captain to win a T20 World Cup. He is also the second-oldest captain to win an ICC tournament final, after Imran Khan, who was 39 years and 172 days old when Pakistan won the 1992 ODI World Cup.
Rohit Sharma has a perfect win-loss record as captain in T20 finals, with six wins for Mumbai Indians and two for India. Only MS Dhoni has more T20 final wins as captain. Rohit has been part of 11 winning T20 final teams out of 12 he has played in, trailing only Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, and Shoaib Malik.
Most Wins as Captain
Rohit Sharma has led India to 49 wins out of 62 T20Is, the most by any captain in men's T20Is, surpassing Babar Azam's 48. India has lost only 12 T20Is under Rohit's leadership, with one game ending in a tie that India won in the Super Over.
Triple Crown
Virat Kohli is one of only two players to have been part of the winning team in the finals of all three ICC white-ball events (ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, and Champions Trophy). MS Dhoni was the first to achieve this feat, doing so as captain.
