Team India has been graced by some of the finest players to ever play the game.
Among the many stars in the Indian cricketing galaxy is Ravi Ashwin, who recently achieved a remarkable feat by becoming only the second bowler after Anil Kumble to take 500 wickets for Team India in the game's longest format.
But after taking his 500th wicket on the second day of the Rajkot Test, Ashwin had to leave immediately due to a family emergency, leaving him unable to continue.
Ashwin returned to the Indian Test squad on the fourth day of the match and successfully claimed his 501st wicket in the Test format.
However, after the match, Ashwin's wife Preeti posted a long emotional note on social media. She mentioned that they had chased the 500 in Hyderabad and Vizag, but unfortunately, it did not happen. To lift their spirits, she bought a ton of sweets and distributed them to everyone at home. Between 499 to 500 people came and went quietly. A lot happened between 500 and 501. Ashwin's wife, Prithi, wrote on Instagram, «These were the longest 48 hours of our lives. But this is about the 500. And the 499 before that.»
Ashwin withdrew from Team India's playing 11 during the third test match due to a family emergency. The exact reason for his withdrawal is still unknown.
On 23 February, Team India will play the fourth Test of the series against England in Ranchi.
