Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra is confident. He stated that their new signing, Shahrukh Khan, will be the team's main player in the lower middle order.
Under Nehra's coaching, many young players have performed well in the league. The 2022 champions will be led by Shubman Gill. The franchise requires a player who can fill the role of Hardik Pandya, who left the team to return to Mumbai Indians.
GT invested heavily in young players during the auction, including the INR 7.4 crore purchase of Shahrukh Khan, despite his limited success in the tournament.
The Tamil Nadu batter has scored 426 runs in 33 IPL matches, averaging 20.29. According to Nehra, Shahrukh has the potential to be a valuable finisher for the Titans.
Nehra stated that Shahrukh will be a significant actor in the upcoming season. He also advised players to be cautious about their physical well-being as the conditions in May will be challenging:
“IPL is played over two months and the conditions will be hot in May and June. It will be hard on the players' bodies especially fast bowlers. Injuries can also happen. So every player is important for the team.”
Newcomers Spencer Johnson and Azmatullah Omarzai will be key for the franchise.
In the absence of Mohammed Shami, Rashid Khan will lead the bowling attack.
