Amazing day, when records are shattered

Day 1 of the West Indies vs South Africa 2nd Test at the Providence Stadium in Guyana was dominated by bowlers, with several records being shattered. Here are the key records broken during the day:

1. Shamar Joseph's Historic Five-Wicket Haul: Shamar Joseph became only the second West Indian bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a Test match at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. This was also his maiden five-wicket haul in his debut home Test match.

2. Most Wickets in a Single Day in West Indies: A total of 17 wickets fell on Day 1, marking the most wickets to tumble in a single day of a Test match in the West Indies. This broke the previous record of 14 wickets, which also occurred in a match between West Indies and South Africa in 2021.

3. South Africa's 10th-Wicket Stand: South Africa’s 10th-wicket partnership was their highest in these innings, though it fell short of the record 10th-wicket partnership for South Africa. The record still belongs to Morne Morkel and AB de Villiers, who scored an unbeaten 107-run stand against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi in 2010.

4. South Africa’s Second-Lowest Test Total Against West Indies in the Caribbean: South Africa was bundled out for just 160 runs in 54 overs. This is now their second-lowest total in a Test innings against the West Indies in the Caribbean.

5. Additionally, it was the quickest they’ve been bowled out against the West Indies, surpassing their previous low of facing 61.1 overs back in 2001.

Day 1 was a dramatic affair, with bowlers ruling the roost, setting the stage for an intriguing remainder of the match.
