In preparation for their upcoming five-Test series in Australia, Team India is set for a unique warm-up match against India 'A'. This will be India's only practice game before the highly anticipated series, marking the first time since the 1991-92 season that India and Australia will play a five-Test series Down Under. India has won consecutive Test series in Australia, including their historic triumph in 2020-21.
Unlike the previous tour, where India played ODIs, T20Is, and practice matches, the BCCI has opted for an internal contest this time. According to Cricbuzz, the Indian senior team, led by Rohit Sharma, will take on the touring India 'A' side, which includes some Test regulars.
India 'A', captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad, will arrive in Australia ahead of the senior team and play two games against Australia 'A'. Following those matches, India 'A' will stay in Australia to face the senior side in a three-day internal game at the WACA Ground in Perth from November 15 to 17. The first Test of the series between India and Australia will begin at Optus Stadium in Perth on November 22.
This strategic warm-up aims to fine-tune India's preparation, with Test players potentially featuring in both India 'A' matches. The final squad for India 'A' is expected to be announced soon, while Australia will reveal their 'A' team shortly, including an update on all-rounder Cameron Green’s fitness.
