Chennai Super Kings defeated Gujarat Titans by 63 runs, securing their second consecutive victory and claiming the top spot in the points table

Chennai Super Kings, the defending champions, secured back-to-back home wins in the Indian Premier League by thumping Gujarat Titans by 63 runs on Tuesday.

Chennai displayed a sterling all-round performance, utilizing the conditions to perfection and posting an above-par total of 206-6. Gujarat, struggling against the pace-dominated attack, could only manage 143-8.

Sai Sudharsan, the impact player, top-scored with 37 runs off 31 balls. However, the rest of the Gujarat batters struggled to form partnerships, and Chennai held onto some brilliant catches in the deep.

Captain Shubman Gill made only eight runs off five balls before playing across the line to Deepak Chahar (2-28) and being out plumb leg before wicket in the third over of the tall chase.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who stepped down as captain before the tournament, made a fantastic diving catch to his right to dismiss Vijay Shankar. Ajinkya Rahane also took a great catch at deep mid-wicket to dismiss dangerous David Miller for 21.

Rachin Ravindra completed Chennai's excellent performance with three catches in the deep. Fast bowler Tushar Deshpande (2-21) and Mustafizur Rahman (2-30) kept taking wickets at regular intervals.

Earlier, Ravindra set the tone for Chennai with a quickfire 46 off 20 balls, including six boundaries and three sixes. Gaikwad also took advantage of a dropped catch when he was on 1, and went on to score 46 runs, providing a solid start of 62 runs within the batting power play with Ravindra.

Shivam Dube (51) then kept the pressure on the opposition spinners in the middle overs with a half-century off just 23 balls. The left-hander dominated ace spinner Rashid Khan (2-49) and Sai Kishore. Sameer Rizvi, who was playing his first IPL season at the age of 20, showed no signs of nerves and hit Rashid for two sixes. As a result, Chennai posted a challenging total.

In the season opener, Chennai defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six wickets, while Gujarat secured a six-run win over Mumbai Indians.
