Cost of meeting and dinner with the Pakistan Cricket Team

Controversy surrounds the Pakistan cricket team once again as reports emerge of a private dinner event hosted for fans in the USA ahead of their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. The event, organised by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and players, allegedly required fans to pay a fee of 25 US dollars for a 'meet and greet' opportunity with the star players.

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Rashid Latif took to social media to voice his concerns, labelling the initiative as "terrible" and expressing disbelief at the concept of charging fans for such an event. In a video posted on 'X', Latif criticised the decision, highlighting the potential negative perception and questioning the integrity of the players involved.

Latif's sentiments were echoed by TV presenter and cricket correspondent Nauman Niaz, who lamented the "sad state of affairs" within the Pakistan team. Latif further emphasised that while he understood the concept of organising charity dinners, the notion of a private dinner with a fee was beyond comprehension.

Expressing concern over the commercialisation of such events, Latif urged players to exercise caution, particularly in light of the World Cup spotlight. He stressed the importance of maintaining the integrity and reputation of Pakistan cricket, advising against the misuse of such opportunities for monetary gain.

The controversy comes at a critical juncture for Pakistan as they prepare to face hosts USA in their opening match at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas on June 6. With the team already under scrutiny for their performance on the field, this off-field incident adds further scrutiny to their preparations and focus heading into the tournament.
