Following a thrilling super-over match for Namibia against Oman, David Weise, 39, acknowledged that he felt a little older. Weise assisted Namibia in defeating Oman in their first-ever T20 World Cup 2024 match.
David Weise of Namibia discussed the anxious sensation he had on June 3, Monday, after he had emerged as the team's hero in their Super Over victory against Oman in the Group B match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at Kensington Oval, Barbados in the West Indies. The match went into the Super Over, the first in a men's T20 World Cup since 2012, and Namibia pulled off an exciting victory. Weise's all-around effort with the bat and ball earned him the title of Player of the Match.
Weise discussed his strategy in the super-over and described the match as emotionally taxing in an interview with the commentators following the game.
"Aged a couple of years tonight. Don't have a lot of years left in me (laughs). Emotionally draining evening. (Batting and bowling in Super Over) It helped that I had a feel of the game and knew if I get a few hits out in the Super Over, then with the ball, felt like taking the ball and executing," Weise said.
Weise stepped out to bat in the super over and hammered Bilal Khan for a six and a four in the first two balls after Namibia was able to tie the score with Oman. Namibia won the T20 World Cup with the greatest super-over score of 21 runs thanks to the combined efforts of Weise and Gerhard Erasmus. The squad won the Super Over with flying colours after failing to pursue down 110. Weise took on the task of defending the super over total and was successful in picking up a wicket while conceding just 10 runs.
