Delhi Capitals have announced Rishabh Pant as the new captain for the Indian Premier League 2024. Pant, who was out of the team for a year following a fatal car accident, has returned as captain to replace David Warner. The wicketkeeper returns to competitive cricket after 14 months and is working hard at the pre-season camp in Vizag.
Since December 2022, Pant has not played any cricket and has had to go through a lengthy rehabilitation process to recover from a number of injuries.
Pant was declared fit to play by the Board of Control for Cricket in the build-up to the Indian Premier League. The Delhi Capitals' move is big news for fans eagerly awaiting Rishabh's return.
The young batsman kept fans informed about his recovery process while stationed at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
DC chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal praised Pant's determination during his recovery.
In IPL 2023, David Warner led the Delhi Capitals, who won only 5 out of their 14 matches. Tristan Stubbs, Kumar Kushagra, Jhye Richardson, and Jake Fraser-McGurk have joined the franchise this season.
DC's first match will be against Punjab Kings on March 23.
