Jasprit Bumrah was the standout player in the IPL 2024 match between Mumbai and Bengaluru. The pacer put Royal Challengers Bengaluru on the back foot with five wickets, including the prized scalps of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. Although RCB made 196 all out in their 20 overs, the total was never going to be enough. The hosts completed the chase in just 15.3 overs with seven wickets in hand.
RCB captain Faf du Plessis admitted that Bumrah was the difference between the two sides on a flat Wankhede wicket. He was the difference-maker, taking five wickets on a pitch that favoured the bowlers. Facing him puts constant pressure on the batsmen, and he often surprises them.
“Jasprit Bumrah has replaced the greatest Lasith Malinga in the Mumbai Indians bowling up. He bowled a special spell in the game against us.”
In the 17th season of the tournament, RCB has won only one game and lost five. Faf has made tactical errors and has been criticized for his leadership by cricket experts, despite having players like Virat Kohli on the team.
Additionally, Glenn Maxwell has been a concern for the franchise, having scored three ducks in the first six contests.
