T20 leagues worldwide favour the batter, and the IPL is no exception. The tournament witnessed the highest score in the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians on March 27. Former Pakistan pacer Junaid Khan mocked and questioned the quality of the best T20 league in the world, which did not go down well.
The IPL has also produced close encounters over the years. Meanwhile, SRH scored 277/3 after being invited to bat first by MI captain Hardik Pandya in IPL 2024. On a flat track, the bowlers were ineffective as Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma launched an attack from the start of their innings. Head, playing his first IPL game, scored 62 runs off 24 deliveries, hitting 9 fours and three sixes. His partner was equally impressive, scoring 63 off 23 deliveries, including seven sixes and three fours.
The real acceleration came from Heinrich Klaasen, who scored an unbeaten 80 off 34 balls, hitting seven sixes and four fours.
Former captain Aiden Markram remained unbeaten on 42 off 28, with 2 fours and 1 six.
Mumbai's batters played well but fell short by 31 runs in their pursuit of the record total. The five-time champions scored 246/5 in 20 overs, with Tilak Varma hitting 64 off 34 balls, including six sixes and two fours. Tim David contributed 42 off 22, with three sixes and two fours.
Junaid, one of the best left-arm pacers during his playing days, mocked the IPL on X:
“Flat pitches, small boundaries, quick outfield. This is called IPL A target of 278 😲.”
Chennai Super Kings currently top the points table with two victories out of two games.
