Hardik Pandya has been slapped with a fine of INR 12 lakh for a late over against Punjab Kings. This was the first time in the 17th season that the Mumbai Indians were found guilty of not completing the over on time. Captain Hardik was penalised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
At the end of the allotted time, MI was two overs short and could only place four fielders outside the thirty-yard circle instead of the required five.
If Mumbai, led by Hardik Pandya, commits the same offence in two more matches during the ongoing season, the Baroda-based player will face a one-game ban and a fine of INR 24 lakh for the second slow overrate penalty.
Meanwhile, Mumbai won the game by nine runs to secure their third win of the season. The visitors posted a total of 192/7, with Suryakumar Yadav scoring 78 runs, while Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma made valuable contributions.
Punjab's top order collapsed, and the responsibility was once again placed on Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh.
Ashutosh scored an impressive 61 runs off just 28 balls, hitting 7 sixes and 2 fours. Unfortunately, his dismissal marked the end of Punjab's hopes.
Shashank contributed 41 runs off 25 balls, including 3 sixes and 2 fours. Punjab was bowled out for 183, falling short by 9 runs. Three wickets went to Jasprit Bumrah.
This was Mumbai's third win of the season, and they are now seventh in the table with six points. Meanwhile, Punjab has lost five out of seven games.
