Hardik Pandya has recovered from his injury and is set to captain Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). The all-rounder sustained the injury during the ODI World Cup match against Bangladesh in Pune in October 2023 while attempting to stop a drive from Litton Das' bat.
In an interview with Star Sports, Pandya revealed that he had expected to recover in 25 days, but it took him several months to return to cricket. Pandya has been ruled out of the World Cup due to injury.
According to his initial assessment, he will be away for 25 days. He pushed his body hard in an attempt to recover before the end of the World Cup.
“I was given injections on my ankle at three different places. The blood was removed from my ankle as the swelling became that much. I was somewhat aware that I might be away for a long time.”
Pandya stated that he worsened his injury because he was determined to participate in the World Cup.
“I had a recurrence and my injury period was extended to three months. I wasn’t able to walk. I was trying to make a comeback. The biggest pride is to play for the country and the World Cup at home was my baby. I missed out on that and I will remember this for a long time.”
