Ignored for ICC T20 World Cup 2024, former KKR star announces retirement

New Zealand opener Collin Munro has announced his retirement from international cricket. A white-ball specialist, Munro has represented the Blackcaps at T20 World Cups.

After missing out on New Zealand's squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Munro, 37, has decided to hang up his boots from international cricket. He had hoped to play for New Zealand again.

The left-hander played more than 100 matches for New Zealand, but his only Test match came against South Africa in 2013. It was overshadowed by a stellar white-ball career in which he scored three centuries and nineteen half-centuries for his nation.

Munro scored 3 centuries in his T20I career and is one of only 7 batsmen to score 3 tons in the game's shortest format. The former opener was a key part of the Kiwi team that took on England in the thrilling final of the 2019 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup. He also represented New Zealand at the 2014 and 2016 T20 World Cups.

Munro has announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect but will continue to play for franchises in the leagues. Reflecting on his career, Munro said that playing for New Zealand was undoubtedly the highlight of his career.

Munro was quoted by ICC:

“My greatest accomplishment as a player has always been to play for the Black Caps. I will always be proud of the fact that I was able to do that 123 times across all formats. I have always felt proud wearing the NZ jersey.”

He has represented Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.
