The T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA has witnessed several unprecedented occurrences, with teams encountering unique challenges. In a surprising turn of events in New York, where the Indian cricket team is competing in Group A matches, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) found it necessary to procure gym memberships for its players outside the hotel premises due to dissatisfaction with the internal facilities.
Reportedly, the players opted to utilise gym facilities at a renowned chain in the city, as the amenities within the team's hotel in Long Island failed to meet expectations. A source confirmed the arrangement, stating, "Yes, the team doesn't use the hotel gym and they have a membership of a gym nearby and everyone uses that. It is a very popular gym chain."
Previously, concerns were raised regarding the "average facilities" at Cantiague Park, designated by the ICC as an official net area with six drop-in pitches. Despite the efforts to promote cricket in non-traditional cricketing nations like the USA, challenges persist, leading to what has been described as chaotic arrangements.
Amidst the rushed preparations, the Indian team has managed to maintain a strong position in the campaign, securing victories against Ireland and Pakistan in their initial Group A matches. With upcoming matches against co-hosts USA and Canada, Team India remains focused on their quest to qualify for the Super 8s stage.
